Servant Leadership

My Story

I love asking questions and tackling new challenges. The drive to know more to solve problems is what drives me. As a result, my life has taken me in many directions.

I went to college thinking I’d become and English teacher, but before I got there I worked as a fencing coach, a personal banker, and then an Assitant Langauge Teacher through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. I thought I’d always be an English teacher but the drive for new challenges has pushed me to continue to grow and evolve.

This is how I’ve become a Career and Technical Education teacher in the Media Arts pathway. Rather than guiding students to find the meaning behind that green light in The Great Gatsby, I’m teaching students how to light a video shoot.

Along the way, I’ve become a program director for TEDxMountain Ave and a certified Project Management Professional. These experiences have enabled me to evolve into the servant leader I am today.

While I wear many hats (teacher, servant leader, program manager, life coach), I’ve developed a depth of expertise in looking at what my students, project leads, and colleagues need to grow and creating a plan and materials to help them get there. This requires listening, analysis, assessment, discussion, and research but we get there, and seeing the pride in those I help makes the journey worth it.
